heres how my frames came out, added this very subtle glistening iridescence to them.. you can only see it in certain angles. i antiqued/ painted them myself and enjoyed it so.

these are the only pics i have on my laptop right at the moment, so this is all for now :(

" the music of turtles"

i found out about this place through a flyer i stumbled across when walking around downtown seattle.
coincidentally, earlier the same day i found a book about bonsai trees for sale for $1 at a used book store. ive been practicing and studying trees intensively for the last few months because my next body of works will require many trees and i want to get to know as much as i can about the exotic varieties. ive been actively seeking out trees and i felt like it was absolutely necessary that i see the garden.
its near bremington and we had to take the ferry boat across the water for an hour. when we got to the other side we had to find a cab to the location because going by foot was impossible, its mostly woods and highways w/no side walks- by this time i already missed the flight home, haha
i did not know what to expect when i got there. i found the huge bonsai garden/ gallery outside behind the store.. the place was sort of wild and shabby and there were many works in progress for decades. most of the trees were 100 - 500 + years old.
i learned so much about bonsai from speaking to the artist who has been creating them for 50 years. the whole experience was amazing, dreamy, surreal.. i will be sure to visit again very soon. http://www.elandangardens.com/museum/museum.htm

here are my photos, there are many more trees than this. these are just a few of my favorites.

bald cypress origin 1550

boxwood origin 1875

coast redwood origin 1400

the art scene is huge and extremely diverse, there no way to really generalize it.. you might ask an expert, like a veteran art-dealer. im still learning new things everyday at this point i do not have much knowledge to offer. i just paint, haha ;-)

lol well at least you got back to me, that's cool. i also like your art a lot. funny thing is i found your website completely by coincidence in a yahoo search. but i saw that you had an LJ and i wanted all the updates. when i'm done with college and have a job i'll be sure to buy one of your paintings and frame it on my wall. i won't be surprised in like 100 years if someone analyzes your art and is like "you see this girl, she is a metaphor for mans struggle" hahaha

What a fascinating garden! I've been to Seattle but never knew that was there.

Thank you for sharing this and yes trees are wonderful, both to draw and to be around.

I'm glad the show was such a success! I arrived very early so I was able to take a look at the work, but had to leave just after 6. Your pieces hold so much more luminosity and subtle grace in person. They really do.

I live just across the bay from Elanden Gardens!

the frames turned out gorgeous - well done. Love Music of the Turtles. Beautiful.

The trees are so intricate. The boxwood especially would be an amazing addition to any piece - really magical.

Washington looks really lovely!! I'm in Wyoming right now (taking a roadtrip from So Cal) and I think maybe I never want to forget how much I love getting out of the big city every once in a while.

I'm glad the show went well!! It's so very exciting to read about all your shows and to see shots of your work in progress. I cannot wait to make it to one of your galleries again. I'll wait patiently until you come to LA again! :D
