03:14 pm - longer nights
an upcoming exhibit 16th of november @ lineage gallery in philadelphia, pa - will host the lovely artist sam flores downstairs and stella im hultberg & me amy sol upstairs.

im working on five paintings for this exhibit. the work has been very intensive, i feel they are nearing completion but the finishing touches seem to be taking forever. for fun i post a recent working photo >here

im getting anxious because the progression of these pieces have taken longer than anything ive ever done up to this point. it's strange, i dont recognize myself while i paint. its like my hands have more patience than me.
i'd really love to go out this halloween. if the works are complete... we shall see ;-)

Ohh how I wish someday to be able to share a gallery show with you! your works have an amazing amount of magic and fantasy that I just can't stop staring at them!

This photo is also so beautiful, even if you look so serious >.< But you're really pretty, and you make me feel happy bcause I'm not the only one who looks for comfortable clothes to work! That's why I hate to go to art classes, bcause I have to stay well-dressed >.< Nothing like my cotton tank tops and my shorts!
Just a little question, that painting it's made on plywood? It looks so pretty! I tried to buy plywood of that size on homedepot and the stupid guy who cut the pieces didn't do it carefully and damaged a lot the surface :( Yours look so pretty >.<

Hugs! and good luck on the exhibitions!

thanks:) im embarrassed, to take photos while i work. it feels unnatural and cheesy to me. ha,ha i think i didn't smile for that but i guess i should have smiled ^_^
this painting is on birch. birch is the smoothest and easy to cure surface.
the more interesting grains come from more exotic woods. like cherry, walnut.
if you can salvage this kind of wood, not buy it. it will be better a thing to do. they take more care to prepare. i usually do not like to work on pine, i think it warps easy and has too high ph.

hehehe I believe you look really pretty even if you look that serious, somehow your girls really have a soft look like you :)

Birch? Mm, I must look for it... I love to pick forgotten wood on streets, but none as big as that one o_O Recently some friends got me a very strange cut of a wood they used for horseback riding obstacles, i saved them but that wood is so hard!

I'm not sure that I can find birch, cherry or walnut at the streets here :( I support what you say, I'll use wood remains of my uncle's house and in the horse club I belong to. Thanks for the reply! *hugs*

your expression says something like: don't mess with amy sol.

i love progress shots, they make me want to paint again although have no time (and for some reason motivation sinks a little when they won't let you into art college, but hey, who needs art college anyway...)

what i love about your work is that it has all those characters in it you just want to hold and cuddle because they wake those childhood memories of being in a petting zoo or just wanting a puppy sooo bad but at the same time it has this cool distance in it that seems very grown-up and very mysterious and stands in such a contrast to that childlike aspect. i always have the feeling that there are a million stories about things lost and broken or moments of seriousness and thoughtfulness behind every picture and that's when i love art...when a single picture gives me the feeling that there is so much more behind it.

i hope that made sense.

The lineage piece is lovely. To me, it has a soft, lifting feeling. I can see where the bonsai reference that you wrote about earlier comes in. I like the trees ^_^

the panels come from different places. my favorite is arroyo hardwoods in pasadena. they have good and often very unique left over cuttings, my fav ones are those i rescue from the garbage.

I am heart broken

(Link)
I would love to find some of your prints on paper that the starving artist could afford. I sumbled upon your work and it amazed me. An artist has to grab my heart for me to like their work. You grab mine just as Ryden does. I am hopefully going to start college in a year to work for a PhD in Art theory and history...No, I don't believe in art classes, but it would enable me to open up my own gallery and things of that nature. It seems to be the only thing that can hold my attention long enough to be willing to go to school for! hehehe...Anywho, I just wanted to drop by and tell you how calming, and touching your work is. And if there is anywhere that possibly sales your prints on paper I would love to know. I will be sending you a myspace friend request as "that's ms. ahh death to you!"
Keep up the beauty!

thankyou much, its very sweet of you to take the time to write.
next year i plan to release a very affordable giclee. they be "mini" or very small size print.
this way i can do all the packaging and stuff myself alone and keep the cost very low ;-)
the next 3 prints are set to be on the website next week. amy@amysol.com i can add your e-mail to the mailing list for future updates. take care ^_^

Thank you so much! You are wonderful. Do you have a blog anywhere or anything on the techniques of your color? It's amazing, and I would like to try it.
